“the sounds of the strings and the winding tempo made yoga feel like a dance.”

How StringFlo began

I am a composer who came to Pilates while I was in a bad place in my marriage and job. I was not very flexible and was carrying around a lot of tension. I joined a practice that was multigenerational and diverse and immediately felt at home when I heard the playlist of neo soul and light classical music. I began to realize that for myself, I would feel most in tune with my practice when timing my repetitions to the music and as I was challenged, I like the music to gather intensity along with my exercise. As time went on, I began to think of music that would fit my practice and would daydream about this music during the cool down of my pilates class.

In 2022 I realized that I needed a major change in my life and wanted to be closer to my children in New York. I also realized that I had a lot of music that was backed up in my mind and I needed to write this music. So..I sold my house, quit my job and moved to Brooklyn. In my first year, I wrote the entirety of String Flo over the course of 9 months. I am so thankful to the Fairmount String Quartet who encouraged this project and then performed and recorded it for me. Please let me know how this work resonants with your practice, I would love to hear from you!
