IN PROGRESS

12/7/22

As I get more comfortable with interactive visuals and sound, I have begun a new Violin, Electronics and Video piece. This photo of Leah Kim playing “Out of Pure Sound” at the 2010 Philly Fringe Festival was my first such piece. Gone is the monstrous job of playing to a click and playback!

Working Theme:

An America

Here are some poetry and sound sources I am considering:

Gertrude Stein

B52s

Harryette Mullen (with permission)

Library of Congress - Samples of Americana

Emily Dickinson

Sonia Sanchez (with permission)

Internet (Video) Archive -Annie Oakley

12/13/22

Experimenting with using Jitter to display poetry. In this case, I learned how to display phrases in random locations.

12/14/22

Experimenting with the use of envelope following for backgrounds and opening the gate on a B52’s sample. Also, looked into triggering an array of photos in MAX.

12/11/22

Experimented a lot with converting audio of Gertrude Stein speaking to MIDI to work with the rhythm of the spoken voice. Lots more to do here.

12/1/22

I love how the MAX for Live object Pitch Drop translates to visuals.

11/23/22

The start to my experiments with poetry in MAX for Live and MAX

1/6/23 Working with archival copyright free footage of woman icons and getting more subtle appearance of the text by automating opacity. This is a section that transitions the sound of the violin from an acoustic effect to an electric violin for the next section.
